Welcome!

Fed and Bougie is a destination where my work focuses on the intersection of food and community, entrepreneurship, and culture.

BHM: 25 Black-Owned Restaurants in Metro Detroit

BHM: 25 Black-Owned Restaurants in Metro Detroit

Every day my goal is to use Fed & Bougie to recognize people of color, especially black people, in the food industry. Of course, now that we are in Black History Month, there’s no better time to bring even more attention to these individuals and communities.

This past week, I noticed a fun game on social media with the intent to support black - owned restaurants this month. The game is essentially bingo but has been affectionately and appropriately reformatted as BLACK. It kicked off with the Black Blogger Clique in Houston (definitely check them out). From there, the game went to Dallas, Oklahoma City, Chicago, and New York. Ya’ll know I couldn’t let Detroit sleep on this.

Using the other cities as a guide, I created a BLACK board game so that you can eat (or drink) your way through metro Detroit’s Black-Owned Restaurants. I’ve mixed it up a little bit by including Black-owned coffee and wine spots. When you get a full row (vertically, horizontally or diagonally), you’ll be eligible to win one of two available gift cards, priced at $25 and $50. Then you could use that gift card to get a meal at another Black-Owned restaurant 😉 For a chance to win one of the two gift cards, you’ll be entered into a drawing and the winner be selected at random.

When you get BLACK, DM me on Instagram or email me at brittany@fedandbougie.com. You must provide proof through pictures (with a date and timestamp) and/or receipts that you went to all 5 of the establishments. As you play along, be sure to tag the restaurants and Fed & Bougie in your social media posts. Use the hashtag #DETBlackBoard too.

Most importantly, eat some good food and have fun!

Here are the restaurants featured on the board. For your free spot, I’ve also included a list to give you some ideas on where to go.
