WHM: 24 Women-Owned Restaurants in Metro Detroit

WHM: 24 Women-Owned Restaurants in Metro Detroit

Last month, with inspiration from the Black Blogger Clique, I created the BLACK bingo board so that Detroit wouldn’t be left out of all the fun. So, in honor of Women’s History Month, I’m back with another bingo game!

The rules of the game are the same – eat and drink your way around Detroit’s Women-Owned Restaurants (or bakeries or coffee/smoothie shops or wine shops) and mark that place on the bingo board. When you get five in a row, whether horizontal, diagonal, or vertical, you’ll be entered into a drawing to compete for gift cards to some of those restaurants featured on the board.

As with BLACK bingo, this list is by no means an exhaustive list. But my intention was to showcase a variety of women-owned food and beverage businesses, of different nationalities, in different neighborhoods around Detroit, including Hamtramck and Southwest. I kid you not when I say it wasn’t as simple as I initially thought it would to put this all together. One of the things I thought over was whether to include businesses that are part woman-owned. However, a friend of mine who is in the food industry strongly cautioned me not to exclude those women, because, often, those women aren’t recognized for their hardwork and contributions. “I was actually hoping it would bring awareness to businesses that folks wouldn’t know it part woman owned because the man is the face of xyz,” she told me. My friend is in the process of opening her own restaurant, which she is part owner of. “If [name of restaurant] was open, we would be excluded from this list.”

Here are the restaurants featured on the board. NOTE: Some of these businesses were also featured in BLACK bingo.
